Anam

They were there with me

Aisling

I received my Anam chain for my 50th birthday last year from a good friend. I had been diagnosed with breast cancer 3 months beforehand and spent my birthday in chemotherapy. The chain has the initials of my 2 children on it and has not come off my neck since that day. I absolutely adore it, in a world where due to covid I had to go through treatment alone it meant it was like having my children with me, every time I look in the mirror I would see their initials or feel the chain around my neck and smile as it felt they were there with me, I wasn't alone.

It meant and means the world to me I absolutely adore it.

I wore it through all my treatments chemo, surgery and radiotherapy on the day of surgery the nurses let me wear it all the way to the Theatre and took it off just before I was put to sleep and back on straight after I woke up.
